A group sale is an elusive creature that can drive 10 to 100 to even 500 tickets. If you know group sales - you know it can be a challenge to market them. How can you reach audiences that buy large quantities of tickets? Are they only in our dreams?

I don’t consider myself a fundraiser at all. Yes, I worked as a grant writer for a not-for-profit theatre company for two years fresh out of college, but writing proposals to large foundations asking for funding hardly matches the hustle it takes to be a real deal fundraiser, grassroots style. Asking people for money was always mildly terrifying to me, though I would give what I could to causes I believed in.

All of a sudden, Facebook Live is everywhere. There is a full-page ad for “the first camera for Facebook Live” in the Nov-Dec issue of New York Magazine. There is a new Facebook alert when a trending event is Live. There were endless speeches live streamed on Facebook during the 2016 Presidential election cycle, not to mention the more lighthearted Ricky-Gervais-in-a-bathtub type of streaming that pops up in your Newsfeed.

First of all, let me just get it out there — I am a millennial. I grew up with the Internet. I wear big headphones. It doesn’t matter how many different situations my mom proposes — I would always rather text than call. I know where my friends are basically all the time, thanks to the various social media platforms we hold near and dear.

I love autumn in New York; the weather feels crisp, Central Park turns brilliant shades of bright orange, gold and red, and I can pull my favorite blazers out of mothballs. One of the things I love most of all is the fall dance season in the city. There is so much dance to see in October and November that I have to come to terms with the fact that I just won’t have the time and energy (I’m intensely introverted!) to attend everything that I want.
