It’s hard to believe that 2023 is already behind us. It came and went like a gust of wind—another challenging, yet rewarding year for arts and culture. All of us at Capacity Interactive are filled with gratitude for the opportunities we’ve had to help our industry engage audiences, build communities, and market smarter.
Stepping into 2024, I find myself reflecting on the unique energy that this time of year brings. There is something about the start of a new year that sparks a sense of renewal and possibility. I always look forward to this season as an opportunity to reshape my life towards greater happiness, health, productivity, and creativity. I know many of you feel similarly.
Gretchen Rubin is a thought leader in the realms of habits and happiness and a frequent source of inspiration for me. You may know her from her bestselling book, "The Happiness Project," or her popular podcast. One of her practices is to select a single word to serve as an overarching theme for the year. It’s a simple, yet powerful concept that brings a sense of focus and intentionality to the year ahead.
To me, Abundance is about recognizing and embracing greatness around us in our experiences, relationships, and contributions to the world. Arts and culture are a testament to the Abundance of human creativity, expression, emotion, and connection. They enrich our lives in countless ways, bringing perspective and a sense of community to us all. As we enter what is sure to be a complex and challenging year with the impending election and worldwide unrest in so many ways, it is the arts that provide a refuge—a source of hope and renewal. In times of uncertainty, I am reminded of the resilience and adaptability of our sector. Through our collective efforts, we are bringing an Abundance of joy, understanding, and beauty into the world. It’s the greatness we can root ourselves in—one experience, one connection, one story, and one year at a time.
